Ethics Workshop

In an age of relativism
and multiculturalism traditional values have been put into question. We’ve started the millennium with a
profound search for values, as previous cultural cues no longer seem to apply
in this rapid changing global economy. Today we’re living in a world where
information and technology are at our fingertips and we’re constantly being
requested to take positions in various conflicts. However, oftentimes we don’t really know if we’ve really
made the right decisions, made the right choices…What guidelines can we use to
help us resolve conflicts and re-think values appropriate to the dilemma in
question? The medical profession
has a de-ontological position to preserve and conserve human life and now with
the new wave of “euthanasia», this moral basis is questioned. Ethical issues
are everywhere; in fact life itself is composed of ethical dilemmas.
What is an Ethics workshop? It’s an introduction to the ethical
systems currently used to address moral dilemmas, conflicts of interest and
crisis in values, occurring in everyday life. Theories such as utilitarianism advocating that we should
act in a way to maximize the most happiness, whereas the de-ontological
approach emphasizes behavior to abide by certain moral rules and Kantian ethics
which links acts to responsibility.
What
are the aims of an ethics workshop? After becoming familiar with the
different ethical theories and applying them to various moral dilemmas, you
will be able to assess each ethical system in order to use them for your own
specific conflicts. You will
obtain the tools and skills necessary to evaluate various ethical issues that
confront you in everyday life.
This practical workshop in ethics will give you a theoretical foundation
both for personal growth and professional development. Some of these systems of ethical
evaluation can be applied to the workplace in areas of conflict of interests or
dilemma crisis. Taking into
account the ethical dimension can enhance decision-making.
Who can participate? The workshop is open to everyone. No
prior knowledge of philosophy is necessary.
